Baptism

The Catholic Church understands Baptism as the first and basic Sacrament of Christian Initiation. But it is only the first step, and must be followed by first reception of the Eucharist and Confirmation in order for a young person to be a fully initiated Catholic Christian.

When parents present their children for Baptism, they are making a serious commitment to raise their children in the faith by bringing them to Sunday Mass and entering them in the religious education program when they reach school age.

The Sacrament of Baptism also removes the effects of original sin - the sin of Adam, or the flawed human condition that we are all born with. The Grace of Baptism frees us from this condition, and makes us open to God's love and blessings in our lives.

• Be a registered and active member of St. Peters for more than 6 months or bring a letter from the parish where you are registered and practice your Catholic faith.

• Parents: Present a copy of the child's birth certificate who is under seven years old and fill out the Baptism Registration form one week before the baptism. 

• Godparents: Can be a batized Catholic who is single and over the age of 16, has received their Holy Communion and has completed their Confirmation. The godparents should be living a life aligned with faith. Any married godparents must have their sacrament of marriage with a copy of their certificates as proof. 

• Both the parents and godparents must attend the meeting regarding baptism preparation or they can present proof they have received the preparation in the last two years.
