Philologia-Women Doctors of the Church
October 4-25, 2017
Wednesday mornings: 10:30 - 12 noon
Ministry Center - 1st Floor Conference Room
In 1970, Pope Paul VI broke with the tradition that only "ordained men" should be considered as Doctors of the Church. He declared Catherine of Siena and Teresa of Avila as "Doctors of the Church"! Pope Paul VI's courageous decision had profound theological implications. It granted to non-ordained women ecclesial authority equivalent to that of well known theologians, such as Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. The lives, the struggles and the theology of these women serve as role models for the women theologians of our times.
