PILGRIM ICON OF THE HOLY FAMILY
Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus
The Icon will can be viewed in our church until December 8, 2017.
The Knights of Columbus has sponsored Marian Hour of Prayer programs since 1979. As part of this program the Order distributes pilgrim icons depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary under her various titles. The icon travels on a year-long journey from council to council in each of the Order's jurisdictions throughout the world. These Marian icons serve as the focal point for prayer services held in council homes, churches or other locations.
The Order's new Holy Family Prayer Program was inaugurated at the 133rd Supreme Convention August 4, 2015. The image used for this prayer program (pictured at right) is a reproduction of an image of the Holy Family by the 18th-century artist Giovanni Balestra, based on a painting by Sassoferrato. The original print is housed at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Rome.
Beginning in January 2016, two framed copies of the image that have been blessed by Pope Francis will begin their journey across Wyoming. One image will begin its journey in Cody and progress along a northern route across the state before reaching Laramie. A second image will start in Jackson and head east along a southern route on its way to Laramie.
